What is silicone adhesive and what is its use?
Silicone adhesives are in the category of polymeric materials. These adhesives have a high resistance due to their special chemical structure, which can be used both at low temperatures and at high temperatures. Silicon polymers used in industry are mainly in the methyl or phenyl group.
Silicones are generally divided into two categories:
A) Stoxy
B) Neutral
Stoxy silicones:
These silicones have an acidic base and are made from a combination of silicon and a solvent. Stoxy silicones have a pungent odor. These products are produced in color and do not have the ability to add color during execution. Drying of stochastic silicones is usually time consuming.
Neutral silicones:
These silicones have a high resistance and their durability is higher than that of stoxy silicones. These products are odorless and resistant to ultraviolet rays.
What is the use of silicone adhesives?
These adhesives are the best choice for seams around bathtubs, bathrooms and sinks due to their high resistance to moisture. These adhesives are also suitable for outdoor spaces to protect against moisture and other weather factors. Silicone adhesives are used on various surfaces of stone, ceramic, glass, plastic, metal and.. These adhesives are difficult to scratch and shape after application on the surface and drying, so the application of these adhesives requires high care.
Advantages of using silicone adhesives:
Resistance to various weather conditions
Pressure resistance
High flexibility
Resistant to ultraviolet rays
Available in different colors
And…
How to apply silicone adhesives:
As we mentioned, silicone adhesives are suitable for tile, stone and ceramic joints and various other surfaces, and its main task is to seal the surfaces in toilets, bathrooms and…. is. Improper and poor quality application of silicone adhesives can prevent the adhesive from working properly and create an unpleasant appearance on the work surface. Therefore, when applying this adhesive, pay attention to the following steps:
Tools and equipment required:
A silicone adhesive cartridge
Special glue pump
blade
Execution steps:
Work surface preparation
Before applying the adhesive on the desired surface, we must first remove the adhesive or material that remains on the surface. We do this by scratching the surface with a razor or a knife. Note that the surface is completely clean and free of stains such as oil, dirt, etc. So thoroughly clean the surface!
Create coverage
Use adhesive tape around the desired surface where you intend to apply the silicone adhesive to create a coating to both prevent the surrounding surfaces from getting dirty and to apply the adhesive more carefully.
Prepare the cartridge
With a knife or razor, cut the head of the silicon cartridge and make sure the cut is small enough that you can control the amount of glue coming out. Then insert the cartridge into the pump.
Try!
First test the adhesive and its output. Note that the adhesive flows smoothly (does not drip or pressurize).
Apply glue on the surface
Hold the cartridge above the desired surface at an angle of 45 degrees and apply the adhesive. Note that during the application of the adhesive, do not remove the cartridge and do not stop pouring the adhesive until the desired surface is finished. By doing this, the glue is applied evenly on the surface and will not be cut.
forming
In order to create a uniform surface on the work, use a spatula to form the glue at the work site to create a smooth and uniform bond between the seams.
Remove the cover
After finishing the work, the cover should be removed immediately! Because the silicone adhesive may melt the coating.
Safety tips when running:
Use proper ventilation at the adhesive application site
Be sure to use appropriate gloves and masks when working
In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash immediately
Beware of sparks and rays when performing work!
Applying these adhesives looks very simple, but requires great care.
