Polyurethane foam and its formation history:
Polyurethane foam spray (PU foam) is a multifunctional chemical product and is used in many common construction applications that require bonding, filling, sealing and insulation. Polyurethane foam is one of the most efficient insulating materials available.
Polyurethane is substantially made from two raw materials: isocyanate and polyol. The history of polyurethane goes back several generations. Initially, the technology was made of rigid foam, then flexible foam was produced, and finally semi-rigid foam was produced.
The early stages in polyurethane chemistry began more than 80 years ago. Single component foams were only invented by ICI in 1969. Product development continued throughout the 1970s, and from the early 1980s polyurethane foam established itself as an important player in the construction industry and later in the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) market. At present, it is inconceivable in most developed countries not to use polyurethane foam in a building or a construction project.
Types of polyurethane foam sprays:
1- Open cell polyurethane foam spray:
Open cell foam insulation is a type of polyurethane spray foam whose small cells (small pores) are not completely closed. Open cell foam spray is cheaper because it uses less chemicals and is a very good insulator for sound and air. It is very suitable for interior walls or walls between building units, under ceilings, between floors and inside toilets.
Open cell polyurethane foam spray is not a good barrier to steam and it is better not to use it outdoors. Open polyurethane spray foam is typically found in densities ranging from 6.4 kg / m3 to 19 kg / m3.
2- Closed cell polyurethane foam spray:
Closed cell foam insulation is a much denser type with a higher density open cell type and has a finer and more compact cell structure. It is a very good barrier to weather vapor and is suitable for outdoor use.
This type of foam expands after injection and reaches several times its original volume (although not as much as its closed cell type) and hardens after a few hours. These closed cell properties of the foam resulting from the spray foam make polyurethane spray foam widely used as moisture insulation, thermal insulation and sound insulation in places that need sealing and insulation.
Applications of closed cell polyurethane foam spray:
Music Studio Insulation
Refrigeration industry
Attic sealing and insulation and Iranit
Insulation of all types of sheds
Sealing around the anti-theft door frame
And 2) be used.
Also, using this spray foam as a sealant prevents the passage of insects and dust.
Features and characteristics of polyurethane foam spray:
- This type of spray is very practical
Excellent adhesion to most building materials (except polyethylene, Teflon and silicone, of course)
- After complete bulking, they can be cut, washed, sanded or even painted
- Very good thermal and acoustic insulation, soundproof and filler for air vents
Excellent and very practical electrical insulation
- Adhesion to vertical and horizontal surfaces
-Resistant to moisture, heat, water and many chemicals
